Geelong is a port city situated in the Victoria region of Australia. It is located at the western end of Corio Bay on the left bank of the Barwon River, approximately 75 km (47 mi) southwest of Melbourne. As of 2023, the city has an estimated population of 282,809, making it the second-largest city in the state of Victoria.
The city serves as the administrative center for the City of Greater Geelong municipality. This area is the only regional metropolitan area within Port Phillip and encompasses a diverse geography including urban, rural, and coastal reserves. The municipality extends from the plains of Lara in the north to the rolling hills of Waurn Ponds in the south, covering the entire Bellarine Peninsula and bounded by Corio Bay to the east and the Barrabool Hills to the west.
