Whyalla is a city located on the east coast of the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. Originally founded as Hummock's Hill, it retained that name until 1916. It currently ranks as the fourth most populous city in the state, following Adelaide, Mount Gambier, and Gawler.
The city is a seaport known as the "Steel City" due to its history of shipbuilding and integrated steelworks. It forms part of the "Iron Triangle" alongside Port Pirie and Port Augusta. The Whyalla Steelworks serves as the town's major employer, though it was placed into voluntary administration by the Government of South Australia in February 2025.
The port of Whyalla has a long industrial history, having exported iron ore since 1903.
