Bundaberg is a major regional city located in the Wide Bay-Burnett region of Queensland, Australia. It ranks as the ninth largest city in the state and has an urban population of 73,747 according to the 2021 census. The city's central business district is positioned along the southern bank of the Burnett River, approximately 20 km from its mouth at Burnett Heads, where it empties into the Coral Sea.
The region is characterized by a rich coastal plain that supports one of Australia's most productive agricultural areas. Due to its significant history in sugar production, the city is frequently referred to as "Sugar City" or "Rum City," though it is commonly known by the nickname "Bundy." The area is also the traditional home of the Taribelang-Bunda, Goreng Goreng, Gurang, and Bailai peoples.
