Brisbane is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Queensland. It serves as the third-most populous city in Australia, with a population of approximately 2.8 million people. The city is situated at the center of South East Queensland, an urban and bio-geographical region that has an estimated population of 4.1 million as of 2024.

The central business district of Brisbane is located on a peninsula within the Brisbane River, roughly 15 kilometres from its mouth at Moreton Bay. The broader Greater Brisbane area extends across the hilly floodplain of the Brisbane River Valley, positioned between the Pacific Ocean and the Taylor and D'Aguilar mountain ranges. This region encompasses several local government areas, with the City of Brisbane LGA forming the inner area and ranking as the most populous local government area in Australia.
