A Schwaighof (also known as a Schweighof) was a specific type of rural estate specialized in dairy production. These estates were established during the High and Late Middle Ages across various German-speaking Alpine and Pre-Alpine regions of Europe, including Switzerland, Tyrol, Carinthia, Swabia, and Bavaria.
The development of these farms was initiated by seigneurial lords and was closely integrated into the system of seigneurial lordship. Their primary purpose was to provide livestock products and dairy for the households of their respective lords, while surplus goods were marketed only secondarily.
