Währing is the 18th district of Vienna, located in the northwestern part of the city. It is situated on the edge of the Vienna Woods, a forested area that borders the urban landscape.
The current boundaries of the district were established in 1892 through the unification of several older suburbs, including Währing, Weinhaus, Gersthof, Pötzleinsdorf, Neustift am Walde, and Salmannsdorf. However, subsequent administrative changes occurred in 1938 when Neustift am Walde and Salmannsdorf were annexed into the neighboring 19th District, known as Döbling.
