Innsbruck is the capital city of the Austrian state of Tyrol and ranks as the fifth-largest city in Austria. It is situated on the River Inn at the junction with the Wipp Valley, which serves as a gateway to the Brenner Pass located 30 km (19 mi) to the south.

As of 2024, the city had a population of 132,188. It serves as a primary urban center within the Tyrol region, defined by its geographic position along the river and its proximity to major mountain passes.
