Rosario, officially known as the Autonomous City of Rosario, is a major city located in central Argentina within the southern portion of the province of Santa Fe. Situated on the west bank of the Paraná River, it lies approximately 300 km (186 mi) northwest of the capital, Buenos Aires. It serves as a significant urban center and is the third-most populous city in the country, following Buenos Aires and Córdoba.
The metropolitan area, known as Greater Rosario, had an estimated population of 1,750,000 as of 2020. The city is characterized by its diverse architectural heritage, featuring hundreds of preserved residences and public buildings designed in neoclassical, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco styles. Additionally, Rosario is notable for being the birthplace of both the revolutionary Marxist Che Guevara and the professional footballer Lionel Messi.
