Río Gallegos is the capital and largest settlement of the Patagonian province of Santa Cruz in Argentina. It is situated in the department of Güer Aike and is located on the estuary of the Gallegos River, which provides the city with its name.
The city is positioned approximately 2,636 km (1,638 mi) south of Buenos Aires, the federal capital of Argentina. According to the 2022 census conducted by INDEC, Río Gallegos had a population of 115,524 residents.
