Buenos Aires, officially known as the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, serves as the capital and largest city of Argentina. It is geographically situated on the southwest side of the Río de la Plata.

The city proper has a population of 3.1 million people, while its broader urban area accommodates approximately 16.7 million residents. This makes it the 21st most populous metropolitan area globally and classifies it as an Alpha- global city according to the GaWC 2024 ranking.
