Vostok Station is a Russian research station located in inland Princess Elizabeth Land, Antarctica. It was founded by the Soviet Union in 1957 and serves as a primary site for scientific exploration within the Antarctic interior.
The station is situated at the southern Pole of Cold, which holds the record for the lowest reliably measured natural temperature on Earth at −89.2 °C. Scientific activities at the facility include magnetometry and ice core drilling.
The name Vostok Station was derived from the lead ship of the First Russian Antarctic Expedition, which was captained by Fabian von Bellingshausen. The nearby Bellingshausen Station was named in honor of the same captain.
