Palmer Station is a United States research station located on Anvers Island in Antarctica. It holds the distinction of being the only U.S. station on the continent situated north of the Antarctic Circle. The current facility was completed in 1968, following an initial construction near the site of the first Palmer station built in 1965.
The station is operated by the United States Antarctic Program (USAP) under the National Science Foundation. While it is significantly smaller than McMurdo Station, it serves as a primary hub for marine and biology research, specifically focusing on plankton and seabirds. Additionally, the base provides support for the RN73 site, which is used for atmospheric monitoring of radionuclides.
