Novolazarevskaya Station

Antarctica

Novolazarevskaya Station is a Russian research station in Antarctica, formerly operated by the Soviet Union. It was officially opened on January 18, 1961, by the 6th Soviet Antarctic Expedition.

The facility is situated at Schirmacher Oasis in Queen Maud Land. It is located approximately 75 kilometers (47 miles) from the Antarctic coast, separated from the shoreline by the Lazarev Ice Shelf. The station maintains a maximum summer population of 70 people.
