Uíge, formerly known as Carmona, is a provincial capital city located in northwestern Angola. It serves as the administrative center for the province of the same name and functions as a municipality with a population of 773,099.
The city developed from a small market center in 1945 before being officially designated as a city in 1956. It currently has a city population of 636,253 and is served by the Uíge Airport, which provides daily flights to the capital city of Luanda.
