Moçâmedes is a city located in southwestern Angola and serves as the capital of Namibe Province. It currently has a population of 345,987 residents.
Founded by the Portuguese colonial administration in 1840, the city was known as Namibe between 1985 and 2016 before its name was reverted. Due to its proximity to the Namib Desert, the area is characterized by a cool dry climate and desert vegetation.
