Malanje is the capital city of Malanje Province in Angola. It serves as a municipality with a population of 506,847, while the city itself has a population of 455,000. Located approximately 380 kilometres east of the national capital, Luanda, it is projected to be the thirteenth fastest-growing city on the African continent between 2020 and 2025 with an annual growth rate of 5.17%.
The region surrounding Malanje features several notable geographical landmarks, including the Calandula waterfalls, the rock formations of Pungo Andongo, and the Capanda Dam. The local climate is primarily humid, characterized by average temperatures ranging between 20 and 24 °C. During the rainy season, the area receives between 900 and 1,300 millimetres of rainfall.
