Kapan

Armenia

Kapan is a town located in southeast Armenia. It serves as the administrative center of the Kapan Municipality and functions as the provincial capital of the Syunik Province. Geographically, the town is situated in the valley of the Voghji River on the northern slopes of Mount Khustup, near the border with Azerbaijan.

Kapan is the most populous town in both the Syunik Province and the broader region of southern Armenia. Census data indicates a declining population over recent decades; while the 2011 census recorded 43,190 residents, the 2022 census reported a current population of approximately 32,780.
