Vardenis is a town located in the Vardenis Municipality of Armenia's Gegharkunik Province. Situated at an elevation of 2,006 metres above sea level, the town lies within the Masrik River valley and on the territory of the Masrik artesian basin. It is positioned near the southeastern shores of Lake Sevan, approximately 170 kilometres east of Yerevan by road and 75 kilometres southeast of Gavar.
The administrative territory of Vardenis covers 3,006 hectares, with the town itself occupying 736 hectares. It officially obtained its status as an urban settlement in 1995. According to census data, the population was recorded at 12,685 in 2011 and slightly decreased to 12,466 in 2022.
