Memaliaj is a town and municipality located in the Gjirokastër County of southern Albania. The current administrative boundaries were established during the 2015 local government reform, which merged the former municipalities of Buz, Krahës, Luftinjë, Memaliaj, Memaliaj Fshat, and Qesarat into a single municipal unit. The town of Memaliaj serves as the seat of this municipality.
The municipality covers a total area of 372.30 square kilometres and has a population of 10,657 residents. The region is entirely populated by Albanians who practice both Muslim Bektashism and Eastern Orthodox Christianity. The primary dialect spoken by the local population in this area is Tosk.
