Durrës is the second most populous city in the Republic of Albania and serves as the seat of both the Durrës County and the Durrës Municipality. It is recognized as one of the country's oldest continuously inhabited cities, possessing a recorded history spanning approximately 2,500 years.

The city is situated on a flat plain along the Albanian Adriatic Sea Coast, specifically located between the mouths of the Erzen and Ishëm rivers at the southeastern corner of the Adriatic Sea. The region experiences a seasonal Mediterranean climate that profoundly influences the local environment.
