The Gilbert Islands are a chain of sixteen atolls and coral islands located in the Pacific Ocean. Geographically, they are situated approximately halfway between Papua New Guinea and Hawaii.
These islands constitute the main part of the country of Kiribati. They represent the eastern-most portion of Micronesia.
