Bamyan, also spelled as Bamiyan or Bamian, is a city located in central Afghanistan. It serves as the capital of Bamyan Province and falls within the jurisdiction of the Bamyan District. With an estimated population of 103,909 people, it is the largest municipality in the Hazarajat region.
The city features several key landmarks, including the Bamyan Airport situated in the middle of the urban area, which is surrounded by schools, businesses, public parks, and residential housing. The Bamyan University is also located near the city center. Major transportation links connect Bamyan to Kabul, approximately 180 km (110 mi) away, and to Bagram in Parwan Province to the east.
The Band-e-Amir National Park is a notable geographic site located roughly a two-hour drive west of the city's center.
