As of 2025, the city has a population of 4 million people, with expatriates making up 92 percent of the residents. The broader urban area encompasses Sharjah and has a population of 5 million as of 2023, while the combined Dubai–Sharjah–Ajman metropolitan area reaches a population of 6 million.
