Canillo is one of the seven parishes that comprise the country of Andorra. It serves as the name for the main town within the parish and shares a border with France to the north and east. As of 2011, the parish had a population of 4,826.
The area is considered the religious center of Andorra, housing the Sanctuary and Chapel of Our Lady of Meritxell, who is the nation's patron saint. It also contains Sant Joan de Caselles, which is noted as one of the best-preserved Romanesque churches in the Pyrenees. While the parish has a tourist vocation, it maintains many traditional agricultural and livestock traits.
