Overview
Qatar, officially known as the State of Qatar, is a country located in West Asia. It occupies the Qatar Peninsula, which extends from the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula into the Persian Gulf. Qatar shares its only land border with Saudi Arabia to the south, while the remainder of its territory is surrounded by the waters of the Persian Gulf. The Gulf of Bahrain, an inlet of the Persian Gulf, separates Qatar from the neighboring island nation of Bahrain.
Geography
The majority of Qatar's landscape consists of flat, low-lying desert terrain, characteristic of much of the Arabian Peninsula. Despite its arid environment, the country's strategic coastal position along the Persian Gulf has played an important role in its historical and economic development.

Doha serves as the capital of Qatar and is by far the country's largest and most significant urban center. Remarkably, more than 80% of Qatar's total population resides in and around Doha, making it the overwhelming focal point of life in the country. This concentration reflects broader patterns seen across the Gulf region, where rapid urbanization has drawn populations toward major coastal cities.
