Ghana, officially the Republic of Ghana, is a country located in West Africa. It borders the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean to the south, and shares land borders with Ivory Coast to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, and Togo to the east. With more than 35 million inhabitants, Ghana ranks as the thirteenth-most populous country in Africa and the second-most populous nation in West Africa. Its capital and largest city is Accra.

History
Ghana holds a significant place in African history as the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence from colonial rule, achieving this milestone in 1957 under the leadership of Kwame Nkrumah, who became its first prime minister and later president. Prior to independence, the territory was known as the Gold Coast, a name reflecting the historical importance of gold in the region's trade. Ghana's independence is widely regarded as a landmark moment that inspired independence movements across the African continent.
People and Culture
Ghana is home to a diverse population comprising numerous ethnic groups, including the Akan, Ewe, Ga-Dangme, and Mole-Dagbon, among others.
